Electromyography and Nerve Conduction Studies ( EMG/NCS )

EMG/NCS Studies

These are studies of the peripheral nerves and muscles in the body. They are helpful in the diagnosis of nerve conditions such as general neuropathies and mononeuropathies such as carpal tunnel. They are also helpful in the diagnosis of muscle conditions such as myopathy and nerve root issues such as radiculopathies which can affect the cervical and lumbar spine.

Unlike X-rays, MRI’s and CT’s which are structural studies, EMG/NCS studies are functional studies of the peripheral nervous system and can help in certain diagnoses, which may not be detected by other conventional structural studies such as the X-rays, MRI’s and CT’s.
